Love Notes

Peter Sculthorpe adored his mother and wrote the lyrical 'Left Bank Waltz' with her in mind. This beautiful piece was originally composed for piano but has been kindly arranged for Acacia Quartet by Ann Carr-Boyd.

Antonin Dvorak's love sick 'Cypresses' were written in 1887 for a student with whom he was completely smitten. Unfortunately she didn't quite feel the same way and married another so Dvorak married her younger sister instead! Acacia will be joined by the radiant Rachel Gregg who will read the 12 Poems by Gustav Pfleger-Moravsky on which Dvorak's music is based.

After the interval Acacia will perform one of the most loved quartets of all time, Alexander Borodin's String Quartet No. 2, written as an anniversary present to his dear wife. Borodin and his wife were great advocates of women's rights and founded the first Women's Medical School in Russia. Borodin definitely proved he was also a romantic at heart!
