Bask in the moonlight with a picnic under the stars at Allambie Orchard. Historically, the full moon has been a time of enjoyment and this event, hosted by YRSM, is posed to be no different. The community is encouraged to gather with friends and loved ones with a moonlight picnic on the grounds overlooking the lake.
The concert will start with one of Joseph Haydn’s late quartets, the String Quartet in G Major, Op. 77/1, followed by Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18/6, the last of a set of six string quartets, making up Op. 18. They got commissioned by Prince Lobkowitz and No. 6 became famous for the harmonic spectrum in its La Malinconia movement, never heard at the time before. The program will finish with Antonín Dvorák's famous String Quartet No. 12, Op. 96, 'American'. Dvorák wrote this wonderful piece during the summer of 1893, while being on vacation in Spillville, Iowa and it cleary shows African-American influences.
